Powerful instructional
strategies. To get the achievement gains needed,
teachers and students need to work smarter rather than
harder. Using instructional strategies and materials
from research-proven Success for All reading programs,
TurnAround enables teachers to:
- increase student engagement and
motivation,
- make adaptations to lessons to
meet all learners’ needs, and
- make the most of classroom time.
Daily lesson plans built around your reading program provide step-by-step support for implementation of powerful instructional strategies such as cooperative learning and active teaching techniques that engage students.
Initial training jumpstarts the process, but change occurs over time. Throughout the year teachers meet in small teacher learning communities to help each other continuously strengthen their instruction under the guidance of their building facilitator and our experienced coaches. Teachers and coaches model for each other and provide feedback directed toward growth.
Classroom management. Focusing all energy on learning builds the rate of achievement. In Success for All Foundation programs, a school-wide approach to building cooperative learning and conflict resolution engages children in learning and keeps disruptions to a minimum. Initial training and ongoing discussion and feedback among teachers and with SFAF coaches create powerful opportunities for growth.
Focus on leadership. The SFAF professional development plan allows school leaders in partnership with their coach to work collaboratively to ensure that the SFAF programs are implemented with integrity so that all students achieve at a proficient level.
Frequent assessment. Rapid progress comes when instruction is guided by student achievement data. In Success for All Foundation programs, quarterly school-wide assessments are used to closely monitor the rate of achievement growth, and are used to celebrate individual student progress. In the classroom, informal progress monitoring tools help teachers observe reading strategy development on a day-to-day basis.
Effective grouping practices
to differentiate instruction. In Success for All Foundation programs, grouping by reading level across grade and class lines for reading classes ensures that every minute of reading instruction is at the right level for every student, so that students make rapid progress.
Tutoring for struggling
students. Tutoring is the most effective tool known for increasing achievement. In SFA elementary schools, tutoring is an important intervention that occurs throughout the school day. In middle schools, tutoring services are offered before or after school or through special programs.
Parent and Family Involvement. Successes for All Foundation programs incorporate a series of school-home connection activities to help parents and family members play an active role in their children’s education.
School planning and intervention
team.Schools are faced with innumerable demands. Success for All Foundation programs guide you in developing a school planning and intervention team to set targets, celebrate progress, and solve problems.
